Piero Dorazio
1927 - 2005
Nel Grigio II (Im Grau II). 1976.
Oil on canvas.
Signed, dated, titled in Italian and German, and inscribed with a dedication on the reverse of the stretcher. This is dated and inscribed “Todi.” Stamped with the Studio Piero Dorazio stamps on the stretcher, where it is handwritten “166". 44 x 84 cm (17.3 x 33 in). [CH].
• From the “Le nebulose” series of works from the 1970s.
• At a time marked by space exploration, Dorazio addresses a vision of the universe fragmented into tiny particles.
• A fascinating interplay of repetition, sequence, and omission: with the lower left corner of the picture, the artist refers to the original emptiness of the cosmos.
• Paintings from the late 1970s are part of important museum collections, including the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York.
The work will be submitted to the Archivio Piero Dorazio, Milan, in its original form at the earliest possible date on March 23, 2026. A photo certificate will follow.
