Gustav Kluge
1947
Kontakt zwischen zwei Populationen. 1989.
Mixed media. Paint and woodcut on collaged paper.
Signed, numbered, and titled “K.Z.Z.P.” in barely legible hand in the lower right corner. From an edition of 6 copies numbered in Roman numerals. 145 x 118 cm (57 x 46.4 in). [JS].

• Painting emotions of his chest: Kluge is a master of psychologically charged figuration.
• Kluge’s series “Contact Between Two Populations” symbolizes the existential themes of attraction and distance, of separation and connection.
• In 2012, the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen presented the major retrospective “Gustav Kluge. Egocinema”
.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Rudolf Zwirner, Cologne.
Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired from the above in 1989).
