Signed and dated in the upper right. Signed, dated, titled, and inscribed “Wilm. Homburgerstr. 2” on the reverse of the stretcher. 79.5 x 65.5 cm (31.2 x 25.7 in). [AW].

• Expressive portrait of a soldier from the period of hardship during World War I, when Ernst Fritsch himself was serving in the military.
• In 1919, Fritsch joined the “Berlin Secession” and the “November Group.”
• Works by the artist can be found in the National Gallery in Berlin and the Berlinische Galerie, among other places
