Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
1880 - 1938
Weiblicher Akt im Atelier. 1909/10.
Pencil drawing.
With the estate stamp (Lugt 1570 b) and the handwritten numbering “B Dre/Bg 129” on the reverse. On wove paper. 34.1 x 26 cm (13.4 x 10.2 in), size of sheet. [CH].

• Spontaneous, fleeting studio drawing from the Dresden “Brücke” period.
• The female nude in the studio was one of the main motifs of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and the “Brücke” artists during these years.
.

PROVENANCE: From the artist's estate (Davos 1938, Kunstmuseum Basel 1946).
Stuttgarter Kunstkabinett Roman Norbert Ketterer, Stuttgart (1954).
Galerie Aurel Scheibler, Berlin.
Private collection Günther Förg (acquired from the above in 2002).

Sketched moment in the artist's studio, in good condition. The sheet has tiny brown spots (which do not detract from the overall impression) and is slightly creased overall, somewhat more noticeably in the margins. There are small crease marks and crimped folds as well as a few tiny tears. On the reverse, there are residues from a previous mounting, partly showing through to the recto, and the paper is slightly thinned in places.
For information concerning the condition, please view the high resolution image / backside image.
