With the estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570 b) and the handwritten registration number “FS Da/Aa 64” on the reverse. On smooth wove paper. 50.1 x 36.1 cm (19.7 x 14.2 in), the full sheet. [CH].

• The interplay of bold colors, fine lines, open spaces, and expressive shading.
• After Kirchner arrived in Switzerland, local life and the impressive natural backdrop inspired him.
• In this work, the artist depicts the mountains around him in an abstract, reduced form.
• The paintings “Bergwaldbäume” (Gordon 530), “Büdner Landschaft” (Kunsthaus Zürich, Gordon 832), and “Berg-Vorfrühling mit Lärchen” (Gordon 719, private collection), which are closely related in terms of motif, were also created during this period.)

Stuttgarter Kunstkabinett Roman Norbert Ketterer, Stuttgart (1954).
Kirchner community of heirs, Biberach (1956).
Walter Köhler Collection, Munich (since 1956, heir to Walter Kirchner (1882-1954), brother of the artist).
Since then in family ownership.

Color chalk drawing in good condition. Sheet minimally mount stained. Edges slightly irregular. Some faint color adhesion due to the material. Very isolated faint handling marks. Small crease mark in the lower left corner of the sheet. Verso of the upper corners of the sheet with semicircular residues from a previous mounting, minimally visible on the recto.
