Ohne Titel - Dithyrambisch. 1974.
Pastel drawing.
Lower right monogrammed. Dated by a hand other than that of the artist on the reverse. On creme paper. 61 x 42.8 cm (24 x 16.8 in), the full sheet. [JS].

• With his dithyrambic art, Lüpertz confidently explores the boundaries between figuration and abstraction.
• Lüpertz's first dithyrambic painting dates from the mid-1960s, marking the beginning of this visionary early work complex.
• “Abstraction not in the sense of abstracting, but as the invention of a nonsense object. [..] As a kind of UFO, an element stranded from another world.” (Markus Lüpertz, 1989)
.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Michael Werner, Cologne (with the hand-written inventory number on the reverse).
Private collection Hesse.

Good overall impression. Some finger marks and rubbings owing to the technique. Slight handling creases in the margins and with mounting points that slightly show through in a brownish color.
