Kinder am Fenster. 1922.
Drypoint.
Hofmaier 237 II B c (of II B d). Signed and titled "Knaben am Fenster" and inscribed by a hand other than that of the artist. From an edition of 100 unnumbered copies. On wove paper. 32.2 x 22.7 cm (12.6 x 8.9 in). Sheet: 53,7 x 37,9 cm (21,1 x 14,9 in).

The sheet was made in remembrance of his childhood. He wrote in his diary on September 14, 1945: "At night Rokin [his Amsterdam address between 1937 and 1947] is brightly lit again, and it feels like back in Leipzig when Lixer and I used to look out onto the illuminated street at night" (quoted from Hofmaier, p. 606). [AW].

PROVENANCE: Galerie Günther Franke, Munich.
Private collection Southern Germany (acquired from the above in 1971).

In good condition. Mount staining and faint brownish spots as well as sunned. The margins slightly irregular and with a small tear (7 mm) in the center of the lower margin.
