• Erben creates a geometric abstraction that references the luminaries of Color Field Painting such as Mark Rothko and Josef Albers.
• Today the artist's works are in numerous public collections like the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Aktuell, Berlin, and the Museum Folkwang, Essen.
• In 2019, the Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop showed a large solo exhibition entitled "Ulrich Erben. Festlegung des Unbegrenzten" .
