Frau im Wind. 1931.
Bronze with brown patina.
Laur 504/2 von 2. Schult 402. Base with the name "E. Barlach" and the foundry mark "H. Noack Berlin" on the reverse. One of 32 unnumbered copies (from an edition of 35 copies). 52.5 x 13 x 10.5 cm (20.6 x 5.1 x 4.1 in).
Postumous cast made since 1947, after a plaster model from 1931. Cast H. Noack, Berlin. [AR].
• Conceived for the frieze "Die Gemeinschaft der Heiligen" (The Communion of Saints).
• With the hands pulled up to the upper body and wearing a long robe, Barlach created an empathic image of a woman in the wind with just a few gestures.
• Other copies are in the Kunsthalle Bremen, the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf and the Ernst Barlach Gesellschaft, Hamburg
.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany.

[KD]
