Bergwasser (Wasserfall und Berge im Maggiatal). 1925.
Watercolor and gouache over charcoal.
Lower right signed, dated and titled "Bergwasser". On firm off-white paper. 55.5 x 70 cm (21.8 x 27.5 in), the full sheet.
Erich Heckel spent the summer of 1925 in Ticino where he hiked a lot in the Maggia Valley north of Largo Maggiore. Heckel captured his intensive impression of nature, unfolding its powers from the primal symbiosis of sky, mountain and water, in the present large-size paper work in radiant colors. [JS].
• Large-size paper work in radiant colors by the important expressionist.

The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen.

Fine and harmonious overall impression. Slightly discolored and with slight creasing and compressions in margins, as well as with very few tiny marginal blemishes. Upper margin with a few slightly compressed spots.
