• The logic and the system of A. R. Penck's iconic language are singular in German post-war art.
• He exhibited at documenta several times since 1972 and participated in the Venice Biennale in 1984. In 2007 the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt mounted a retrospective of his work.
• His paintings can be found in many major collections, including the MoMA, New York; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, among others
