Woodcut in colors.
Ebner/Gabelmann 950 H I (of II). Dube 402 II. Signed, dated, titled and inscribed "Probe". Trial proof aside from the edition of 7 copies from this state. On JW Zanders wove paper (with watermark). 28 x 42.2 cm (11 x 16.6 in). Sheet: 40 x 52 cm (15,7 x 20,4 in).
Heckel made several proofs from the wooden block, partly in different color combinations. The trial proof offered here differs from the color combination mentioned in the catalogue raisonné.
• Print in strong color and with rich details.
• The color combination of this trial proof differes from the else known combinations and can be assumed unique.
• To date only one other copy of this woodcut (in different colors) was offered on the international auction market (source: artprice.com).
• The depicted fruit bowl from the ownership of Erich Heckel is part of the collection of the Hamburg Museum for Arts and Crafts.
