Woodcut in colors.
Ebner/Gabelmann 951 H II b (of II b). Dube 401 b II (of b II). Signed and dated, as well as inscribed "22. Jahresblatt" and with the female gender symbol. Dated "1953" in the printing block. On firm wove paper. 18.2 x 12.4 cm (7.1 x 4.8 in). Sheet: 21 x 14,9 cm (8,2 x 5,8 in).
The artust made the early "Jahresblätter" (annual sheets) from memory in an edition of in an edition of ca. 60 copies, later some 90-100 copies were printed. [AR].
• Between 1930 and 1968 (except for 1941), the artist sent his so-called annual sheets to friends and family as New Year greetings.
• Marvelous print in blue and red, only few copies of this type are known.
• The magician's facial features resemble Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, two years later the artist made a painting with the same motif that he dedicated to Paul Klee ("Der Zauberer", Hüneke 1954-2)
.

PROVENANCE: Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp, Lugt 6032).
