Haus mit Turm. 1908.
Watercolor and color chalks.
Lower rigth signed and dated, lower left titled. On firm paper. 36.3 x 46 cm (14.2 x 18.1 in), size of sheet. [JS].

• Technically fascinating work from the "Brücke" days: In a dynamic flow, Heckel put accentuations and contours in strong colors over the glazing and airy gray-brown watercolors.
• Fine example of the extraordinary graphic innovativeness of the "Brücke" artists.
• Heckel's painting "Haus mit Turm" (1908) was confiscated from the 'Museum der Bildenen Künste' in Leipzig and has been considered lost since
.

The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs Renate Ebner and Mr Hans Geissler for the kind support in cataloging this lot.

PROVENANCE: From the artist's estate (until 1982).
Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp on the reverse, Lugt 6032).

Good overall impression. Slightly foxed and slightly discolored, more obvious in right margin. Margins with isolated kinks and rubbings. Lower corners slightly crimped. With mounting residue on the reverse of the upper corners, slightly pushing through to recto.
