Porträt (Gesche Tietjens / Panne). 1970.
Pen and India ink drawing, gray wash.
Bottom right signed, dated "15 10 70" and inscribed with the personal dedication "für Panne". On creme laid paper, inscribed in Sütterlin script by a hand other than that of the artist. 21.4 x 14.2 cm (8.4 x 5.5 in), size of sheet. [CH].

• In 1968, shortly before this work was made, Janssen started a relationship with Gesche Tietjens, nick-named "Panne".
• The same year the artist was awarded the First Prize for Internationale Graphic at the 34th Venice Biennial.
• In 2004 Gesche Tietjens released the letter compilation "Ach, Liebste, flieg mir nicht weg. Briefe an Gesche (1969-1986)".
• Other drawings by the artist are at, among others, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
• Horst Janssen is considered one of the most important German graphic artists of the 20th century

Fine Inda ink drawing in good codition. Sheet all in all slightly creased, with tiny isolated brownish spots. The paper is obviously a lot older than the drawing, margins with isolated paper losses, creasemarks and splits (up to ca. 1 cm).
