Egg and oil tempera on linen.
Signed, dated "5. Mai 59" and inscribed "Ronco" in lower right. Titled "Cista" in center left. Ca. 20.5 x 20.5 cm (8 x 8 in). [CH].

• The year this work was made Bissier showed works at, among others, the documenta II in Kassel.
• In 1959/60 Bissier was honored with a retrospective at the Gemeente-Museum The Hague.
• On his annual stays in the Ticino the artist developed a close friendship with the English artist Ben Nicholson (1894-1982)

The work is registered at the Archivio Bissier, Ascona, with the archive reference "Ronco 5.Mai 59 Cista/Diap.26VIII.". We are grateful for the kind support in cataloging this lot.

In soft colors and in a very good state of preservation. Edges irregularly trimmed by the artist. Upper edge with a small vertical creasemark. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of an ultraviolet light and to the best of knowledge.
