The English painter, graphic- and object artist Allen Jones occupies one of the front ranks among the best-known Pop Artists.
Inspired by Willem de Kooning, Allen Jones at first made free abstract combinations of forms and colors. He became most famous for his provocative depictions of women as objects of sexual desire. The eroticized figures, often reduced to the leg with high heels or the breast, reoccur like a fetish in all genres. Allen Jones' "Furnitures" caused clear scandals: Life-size female fiberglass sculptures, dressed only in patent leather, leather or latex underwear and arranged in obviously pornographic poses, serve as carriers of glass tables or seats.
Works by the documenta participant Allen Jones, who was honored with a large retrospective in the Walkers Art Gallery in Liverpool in 1979, are in possession of numerous international collections.
