Rupprecht Geiger Rupprecht Geiger - Biography

Rupprecht Geiger counts among the big names of geometrical-abstract art in Germany. The son of the famous painter Willy Geiger, who actually was a trained architect, became a trend-setting post-war avant-garde artist with the formation of the group "Zen 49".
His prints, paintings and sculptures are dominated by an almost meditative concentration on basic geometric forms and an intensive, clear coloring, in which Rupprecht Geiger put an emphasis on an energetic, powerful red. Rupprecht Geiger left behind an important and trend-setting oeuvre of a contemplating sublimity and a perceptible intensity.
Among the numerous honors of the artistic creation of Rupprecht Geiger, an exhibition in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (1985) as well as the large retrospective in the renowned Munich "Lenbachhaus" (2007/2008) are particularly worthwhile mentioning.
