Renée Sintenis Renée Sintenis - Biography

Renée Sintenis counts among the leading female sculptors of the 20th century in Germany. Her artistic talent became obvious at a young age, so that Renée Sintenis eventually began to study decorative sculpting in Berlin. With her sculptures Renée Sintenis soon was acknowledged by the Berlin artist's circles and showed works in the Berlin Secession. Among her preferred subjects were animals and the human figure, she also left behind a comprehensive and delicate oeuvre of drawings and graphic works with similar motifs. The particular charm of her animal sculptures is in their subtle psychological effect, for example, her animals seem to possess character traits such as vulnerability and strength. The most famous creation by Renée Sintenis, whose works can be found in renowned collections, is the "Berlin Bear", which also served as a model for the awards of the Berlin film festival "Berlinale".
