Nan Goldin Nan Goldin - Biography

Nan Goldin, born in Washington in 1953, uses the camera to explore and capture basic questions of human existence. In doing so, Nan Goldin pursues a consistent biographic approach, she documents her own life and the lifes of her friends.
In this context she makes both very sensitive as well as striking photographs that let us participate in most personal moments of friendship and love between people, tender sexuality, in physical and mental abuse in relationships, inthe construction of gender roles, birth , illness, death and loss. All these topics are also addressed in one of Nan Goldin's most famous and most comprehensive works "Ballad of Sexual Dependency". In 2007 Nan Goldin was awarded the "Hasselblad Award" for her extraordinary oeuvre of photographs.
