Eberhard Viegener was a German Expressionist and a representative of New Objectivity.
• As early as 1919, he exhibited his work for the first time at Alfred Flechtheim’s renowned gallery in Düsseldorf.
• His Expressionist works were branded as “degenerate” during the Nazi era.
• In the family’s possession for over 40 years.
• Offered on the international auction market for the first time (source: artprice.com)
.

We are grateful to Mr. Florian Viegener for kindly providing additional information.

PROVENANCE: Wilhelm Steinheuser Collection, Recklinghausen.
Galerie Ludorff, Düsseldorf.
Private collection, Hesse (acquired from the above in 1983).
In the family’s possession ever since.

EXHIBITION: Eberhard Viegener, Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Nov. 20, 1965–Jan. 9, 1966; Wilhelm-Morgner-Haus, Soest, Jan. 29–Feb. 27, 1966, cat. no. 13 (with color ill.).
Die Landschaft in der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts, Galerie Ludorff, Düsseldorf, May 1983, cat. no. 13 (with b/w ill.).

Overall, the painting is in good condition. The canvas is slightly wavy. There is overall craquelure and some flaking. The edges of the image show slight wear. Overall, there are professionally executed retouches, particularly in the area of the roof and the tree trunks on the left. This condition report was prepared to the best of my knowledge and belief, in daylight and with the aid of a UV light source.
For information concerning the condition, please view the high resolution image / backside image.
