• Ai Weiwei reinterprets Gustav Klimt's iconic painting “Am Attersee” (1900) with around 2,500 shiny LEGO studs.
• The soft, pastel-colored sunbeams on the sparkling water are reflected in the pixel-like mosaic.
• The edition is based on Ai Weiwei's large-format unique piece “Am Attersee” (2024), which was created especially for the “Transcending Borders” exhibition at the Marmorschlössl Bad Ischl.
• The artist has previously explored other masterpieces of art history, including Claude Monet's “Water Lilies” and Leonardo da Vinci's “The Last Supper,” which he also recreated in LEGO.
• Other works by Ai Weiwei can be found in major international museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
