• In the year he was born, Dahmen was represented at documenta II in Kassel.
• In the late 1950s, the materiality of his works increased significantly, taking on crusty, relief-like surfaces with which the artist processed the destruction and disruption of the earth's surface caused by lignite mining near his hometown.
• Most recently, his artistic work has been honored with a much-discussed retrospective at the Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst in Duisburg and at the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum in Düren.
