Ben Vautier Ben Vautier - Biography

Ben Vautier counts among the luminaries of action- and object art in the 20th and 21st century. Throughout his life Ben Vautier had a very individual style, which set new standards with its wide artistic range, its profoundness and its special humor. The most fruitful sources of inspiration were Nouveau Réalisme as well as the Fluxus movement, among whose members Ben Vautier counted. The most popular topics for Ben Vautier were a critical and humorous examination of the art business, as he, for instance, placed himself on a base, declaring himself as a work of art. Other characteristic works by the artist are plates inscribed by the artist with mottoes and pieces of wisdom. The oeuvre is completed by a comprehensive theoretic reflection of his artistic creation. His innovative and revolutionary works have been in the focus of numerous exhibitions and can be found in the world's most renowned collections.
