• A remarkably powerful watercolor from the series entitled “Augenbilder” (The Eye Pictures) (1963/64).
• Privately owned since its creation; offered on the international auction market for the first time.
• In the year the work was created, Nay participated in documenta III in Kassel with three large-scale “Augenbilder".


The work is listed under the number “WV-C 64-024.1” in Dr. Magdalene Claesges’ (Cologne) periodically updated and regularly expanded (online) catalog raisonné of E. W. Nay’s works on paper. We would like to express our gratitude for the kind assistance.

PROVENANCE: The artist’s studio.
Galerie Günther Franke, Munich (1964).
Private collection, Southern Germany.
In the family’s possession ever since.

EXHIBITION: E. W. Nay— Aquarelle von 1963 und 1964, Galerie Günther Franke at the Arco-Palais, Munich, July 31–August 29, 1964 (on a sales list, the sheet is titled “1964/my-11” (item 6). The short form “my” refers to the place where the watercolor was created: Mykonos, Greece).

In good condition. The paper is very slightly wavy due to the printing process. Very few small brown spots. Remnants of an old mount on the reverse.
